KK Partizan Sponsorship Deal With NIS

Details of the Deal

The daily newspaper company NIS and KK Partizan signed a major sponsorship deal in 2013. KK Partizan will adopt the new name KK Partizan NIS and in return will receive multi-year financial backing and compensation from the news company. NIS has been a massive investor in the social space and in many other areas as well making their backing a significant opportunity for Partizan. Alongside allocating sums of the investment towards the current team, KK Partizan will be using a large sum of this investment for their child and youth development programs in order to foster more young talent that can be grown and used in the future as professional talent. This lines up with NIS's support for youth groups and allows both organizations to reach out and have a positive impact on the next generation of Serbian athletes.

Question of the day: "How do you think the partnership between NIS and KK Partizan will affect the neutrality of journalism?"

    1. It was not given how much the deal was worth, but it is rumored that it was a large deal at the time due to the value that NIS has and how much they invest in other marketing ventures.

  2. What are the long-term implications that come with this deal? It is exciting that youth groups are a clear focus of the club now and I am excited to see how it changes the outlook in the long term.

    1. The focus on youth academy development was a major plus side that came with this deal. With the deal being almost 10 years old now, the improvements to the youth academy have helped KK Partizan as they have players on their current roster who are excelling that were developed through the youth academy.

  3. I am curious as to why a daily newspaper would want to invest in a basketball club. I am curious about what the benefits are. I am sure there are many benefits, but I wonder what the main benefits the newspaper company is trying to receive. This was an informational post, thanks!

    1. I would assume the reason for them investing in KK Partizan was too improve their brand recognition in the area. I'm sure they are also investing to show that they would be the premier source for news on KK Partizan.

  4. I'm also curious as to the motives for a newspaper company wanting to get involved in advertising in the EuroLeague team. I wonder if there is a lot of competition that the newspaper company has with digital media that this would be their move to get back into the media market.

    1. I think you have the right idea with this. I think that with this advertising maybe it is a way to pave their way to getting their name out there more. I am curios to see how this works out for the company.

  5. I would like to begin that being sponsored from a newspaper would inherently promote positive press, but also a positive image of the team, and basketball within their nation. They may have the power to pursuade young kids to play basketball over other sports, and domestically recruit players and fans alike. I would be curious as some have already mentioned, what is the size and comparison to other sponsors in the euro league? This would help promote clarity as to how beneficial this deal may be to the finanical future, short term success, and ability to carry out on their ambitions of helping next generation of serbian athletes.

  6. Having such a well-known newspaper company like NIS sign a deal with KK Partizan is just another example of the business model that rides on top of the sports industry. Media plays a huge part in sports coverage and revenue for a team so being sponsored by The Daily Newspaper company will only expand the media opportunities for the team as well as investment from the sponsorship for the duration of the deal. I am curious to know the amount the team receives as a result of this sponsorship and how long the team foresees the partnership lasting specifically with the renaming of the team in 2013.

  7. I think it is interesting that a newspaper company wants to sponsor a team. That being said, I do see the benefits of it because of the media exposure that the team will get, and in return it can help NIS. I also am wondering what other benefits this brings in and how much this deal is worth.

    1. I agree, partnering with a media organization certainly gives KK Partizan an opportunity for exposure in a more unique way to most sponsorships. It allows them exclusive coverages from the newspaper but also creates a question of ethics within the newspaper organization as they still must report the facts of the sports world.

  8. I have never heard of a newspaper company, yet alone a media company, sponsoring a sports team. I think this will influence the ways in which NIS writes their articles, as most of the articles following Partizan will most likely have some sort of bias because of the partnership. It will be interesting to see if the success of the team has any impact on what news is reported about the team in the NIS.

  9. It is interesting because I do not think you will ever see this with American teams. If CNN somehow sponsored say the Cowboys, I think the news channel would be all Cowboys news. Not only does this show the difference of sponsorships in Europe, but it also shows the difference in who will sponsor which market.

  10. I find it quite interesting a newspaper company would invest so much into a sports team, but I can only see this benefiting the team. They now have more opportunities for media coverage, which will probably lead to more sponsorship opportunities. I am curious to see how much the revenue increases after this.

  11. I find it super cool that a newspaper company is sponsoring a basketball team, and I wonder what types of and how much coverage the team will receive with this partnership. Media and press coverage is a large portion of a club's revenue. Thus, I think this could only benefit KK Partizan with respect to finances, and more specifically, broadening their fan base.

  13. Regarding the impact on the neutrality of journalism, I think it's important to note that NIS should strive to maintain objectivity and independence in their reporting. It's possible that the sponsorship deal could create a potential conflict of interest, but it ultimately depends on how NIS manages its reporting. Therefore, I think it's crucial that NIS clearly communicates and separates its journalistic content from its sponsorship activities. Additionally, they should be transparent about any potential conflicts of interest and ensure that their reporting is not influenced by their business relationships.

    1. I agree with the importance of maintaining net neutrality being very important for NIS. It would be interesting to see a comparison of their coverage of KK Partizan before and after the sponsorship deal and to see if the news source remained impartial even after partnering with KK Partizan.

  14. This is a really interesting sponsor. I have not heard of a media outlet sponsoring a sports team before, and there are definitely some issues with this. The media company will obviously put out content that favors Partizan which could anger other teams competing in the league. This feels awfully similar to fraud or some sort of illegal practice that should not be allowed in professional competition given the power of the media in contemporary society.

  15. It is interesting to see a newspaper invest so much in a Basketball team. I do not see the benefit that it has on Nis, beyond their will to support youth Serbian athletes. It appears to be a great opportunity for KK Partisan to grow, as Nis will provide content for their team.

    1. I believe the naming rights would have been a main benefit for NIS as they are front and center for anyone that is viewing the games in person or on television.

  16. It is important for news organizations to maintain journalistic integrity and impartiality in their reporting, regardless of any business relationships they may have. It is up to NIS to ensure that their sponsorship does not interfere with the independence and impartiality of their reporting, and for KK Partizan to ensure that the investment is used responsibly and transparently.
